Memphis, TN - Vernard Coffer, 40, was arrested for Second Degree Murder on March 22, 2022, by the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force. U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller made the announcement today.
On Dec. 17, 2021, Jarvis Evan was found shot at a residence near the 2800 block of Shady Vista Drive in Memphis, Tenn. He died from his wounds on December 23. On that same day a warrant was issued for the arrest of Vernard Coffer for Second Degree Murder for this crime. The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force adopted the fugitive case.
On March 22, working in conjunction with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team and the Memphis Police Department Fugitive Apprehension Team, Coffer was tracked to a residence at the 2800 block of Leafy Hollow in Memphis. Coffer was outside when investigators arrived but fled inside the residence when he saw them approach. Marko, a K-9 member of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Two Rivers Task Force, was released into the residence and apprehended the fugitive. Coffer did not sustain any injuries from his apprehension.

The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force in the Western District of Tennessee with offices in Memphis and Jackson. Its membership is composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies, Memphis Police Officers, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Jackson Police Officers, and Special Agents with the Tennessee Department of Correction. The primary mission of the Task Force is to arrest violent offenders and sexual predators.
