Today, Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo met with Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment Dan Tehan to launch the Australia–U.S. Strategic Commercial Dialogue (AUSSCD), an ongoing dialogue between the Commerce Department and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, jointly led by the Secretary and Minister. The Secretary thanked Minister Tehan for Australia’s engagement in support of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and underscored the importance of multilateral support for a global Cross-Border Privacy Rules System (CBPR) to support a fair and competitive global digital economy. The Secretary also expressed appreciation for Australia’s partnership in taking strong and decisive actions to counter the unlawful Russian aggression in Ukraine. Following their meeting, both principals led an industry roundtable focused on critical minerals as part of the new AUSSCD dialogue to find ways to strengthen their supply chains.
