Thompson Statement on New Aviation Security Measures

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Homeland Security on June 28, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

(WASHINGTON) - Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement following Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly’s announcement on DHS requiring enhanced security measures for all flights to the United States:

“Today’s announcement from Secretary Kelly highlights the complicated and evolving nature of ensuring the security of flights coming to the United States. As DHS implements its new policies, it is critical that Congress continues its oversight of TSA to ensure these significant changes are measured and implemented effectively while minimizing the substantial impact on the travelling public and stakeholders. As these new rules affect over 2,000 flights a day, it is crucial that Americans, tourists, and immigrants are properly informed on how their travel is affected."
