The U.S. Department of Transportation is emphasizing key efforts being made under the Biden administration's new infrastructure law to protect road construction crews and drivers.
Under the legislation, the administration hopes DOT employees will be safer while working to repair roads and bridges, according to an April 12 news release.
“Safety is the top priority for our department, and thanks to the historic funding in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, our roads and bridges will be safer for everyone, including the construction crews hard at work repairing and replacing our nation’s infrastructure,” Deputy Federal Highway Administrator Stephanie Pollack said.
In addition to bringing additional attention to the legislation being passed by the current administration, it was National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week, which is an effort by the DOT to bring more awareness to drivers on the road to be cautions when there are workers on the road.
To help address safety issues for workers, $15.6 billion in funding is being made available to go toward Highway Safety Improvement Program, which develops initiatives to make roads safer for drivers and workers.
