KENNEDY’S FLU PLAN PASSES THE SENATE

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Oct. 27, 2005. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, DC- Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy released the following statement on thepassage of his flu plan in the Senate:

This is a major step forward in our efforts to protect America from the deadly threat of avian flu. This amendment is necessary because the Bush Administration is lagging far behind inresponding to this looming danger. The Administration has failed to act, but Congress has answered the call. The flu threat is dangerous and real, and we are determined to do everything we can in Congress to avoid another Katrina-like failure in the Administration’s response. The bipartisan amendment we approved today provides urgently needed funding to strengthen our hospitals, health agencies, and stockpiles of vaccines and medicines to protect American families against the danger of pandemic flu. Today’s action is a victory for health, and a victory for common sense.
