WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy released the followingstatement in response to the settlement reached late last night between the United AutoWorkers Union and General Motors.

“I congratulate the United Auto Workers and General Motors on reaching their landmarkagreement on key issues like job protection and spiraling health costs. Workers at allthree American automakers deserve contracts that resolve these difficult issues andrespect their indispensable contributions to this vital American industry. "
