KENNEDY ON MENINGITIS VACCINE RECALL

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Dec. 12, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy released the following

statement on the recall by Merck of their childhood meningitis vaccine.

"Vaccines are essential in protecting the health of millions of Americans from deadly

diseases. Today's recall shows once more that our vaccine supply is fragile, and that the

nation urgently needs a better plan to see that vaccines are available when needed.

Congress should take action on the legislation that Representative Waxman and I are

proposing to strengthen the vaccine supply and make vaccines available to Americans

who need them."
