WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, issued the following statement on President Obama’s Executive Order requiring federal contractors to offer their workers up to seven days of paid sick leave annually.
“I strongly support this Executive Order to expand access to paid sick days so the employees of federal contractors can take care of themselves and their families when they are sick. Access to paid sick days is a basic worker right, and it is essential to increasing economic stability and security. While today’s announcement is a positive step, I will continue to work on ways to ensure our country, economy, and workplaces work for all families, not just the wealthiest few. I’m fighting to move forward with the Healthy Families Act to allow workers to earn up to seven days of paid sick leave a year, because no worker should have to sacrifice a day’s pay, or their job altogether, just to take care of themselves or their sick child."
