Murray on “Skinny Repeal”: “Sending This Bill to Conference With The House Is Just Like Buying Trumpcare A Ticket to The President’s Desk”

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on July 26, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

(Washington, D.C.) -Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee released on the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score of the Republican “skinny repeal" plan.

“It’s clear how desperate President Trump and Republican leaders are to jam through something, anything to claim a political win, but the so-called “skinny repeal" will still kick 16 million people off coverage, raise premiums by about 20 percent for families across the country, and destabilize health care markets. For my Senate colleagues who think this proposal is a better option than what Republicans have thrown at the wall so far, let me be very clear: Democrats, patients and families know that sending this bill to conference with the House is just like buying Trumpcare a ticket to the President’s desk. No amount of tinkering will make Trumpcare less of a disaster, so I’m once again urging Republicans to abandon their partisan efforts and join Democrats for the open, transparent process patients and families deserve."
