Joshua Tree National Park management is pleased to announce a new art exhibition by local Wonder Valley artist, Stacy Byrd. ReUsed! is an assemblage of pieces incorporating reclaimed items collected near her Mojave Desert home. Through repurposing materials, Byrd created desert landscapes full of vibrant color and depth.
As a Morongo Unified School District employee and former principal, Byrd worked with teachers at Twentynine Palms Junior High School to create accompanying artwork out of discarded materials. Robert Harrigan and Catherine Colella, while teaching about human creativity, design and engineering, worked with their students on recycling materials into collage, mixed media, and installation pieces. These pieces will also be on display for the duration of ReUsed!.
The exhibition will run from May 2, 2022 until July 2, 2022 at the Black Rock Art Gallery in the Black Rock Nature Center located at 9800 Black Rock Canyon Rd, Yucca Valley, CA 92284.
Joshua Tree National Park does not encourage trash collecting on public lands without proper training. Park staff and volunteers are specially trained in the distinction of recently discarded items from artifacts so as not to disturb archaeological sites. Do not collect any items in Joshua Tree or any national park.
