Granholm: Department of Energy announced funding for electric battery 'investments to make them charge faster and last longer'

The U.S. Department of Energy announced $45 million in funding to support advanced, affordable, efficient and convenient EV battery development.

According to a May 3 news release, DOE also announced the launch of the Electric Vehicles for American Low-Carbon Living (EVs4ALL) program to aid in this development.

"Advanced batteries are the heartbeat of the electric vehicle industry and investments to make them charge faster and last longer will be critical to accelerate the deployment of electric cars and trucks," Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said in the release. “The benefits of an electrified transportation sector in America will be felt for generations to come — from directly combatting climate change to growing domestic manufacturing jobs and strengthening our overall energy independence.”

The EVs4ALL program is administered through the DOE's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy and aims to address faster charging, increased efficiency and improved resilience of electric vehicles. This is for the purpose of increasing domestic electric vehicle adoption.

The federal agency also announced $3.1 billion in funding to boost battery production, including the creation of new and retrofitted manufacturing facilities.
