E&C Announces Energy Subcommittee Hearing on Hydropower

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Energy Subcommittee Chairman Bobby L. Rush (D-IL) announced today that the Energy Subcommittee will hold a hearing on hydropower licensing and the proposals outlined in the Uncommon Dialogue proposal on Thursday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Modernizing Hydropower: Licensing and Reforms for a Clean Energy Future.”

“Hydropower is a critical renewable energy resource and it’s time we examine its role in our clean energy future, how best to address environmental concerns, and recent efforts to bring the licensing process into the 21st century,” Pallone and Rush said. “We welcome the unprecedented stakeholder collaboration that led to the Uncommon Dialogue’s proposed regulatory reforms and look forward to discussing its proposals. We also look forward to hearing from our panel of experts on how this low cost, carbon-free energy source can be used to combat climate change, while still enhancing fish and wildlife populations, preserving water quality, and respecting the rights of Tribal Nations.”

This will be a hybrid hearing that includes both in-person and remote member attendance via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.

The Committee strongly recommends that members of the media view the proceedings remotely. The Capitol and House Office Buildings currently have restricted access. Seating in the Committee room for credentialed media is very limited. Media must RSVP to their respective press gallery no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11.
