Roth Reaction to the Administration's Health Insurance Initiative

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on Jan. 19, 2000. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON -- Senate Finance Committee Chairman William V. Roth, Jr. (R-DE) today released the following statement on the Administration's health insurance initiative:

"Providing access to health insurance for America's uninsured children and families is something I strongly support," Roth stated. "The Senate Finance Committee will examine the Administration's proposal and other options for expanding coverage to the uninsured.

"I am very much interested in this -- in 1998 I proposed to expand coverage to the uninsured through tax incentives. Last year, the president vetoed legislation that addressed the needs of America's uninsured. I hope that we will be able to address the health care insurance needs of all Americans in a bipartisan manner."
