Grassley on European Union, Canadian Sanctions Over Byrd Amendment

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on March 31, 2005. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Committee on Finance, today made the following comment on news that the European Union and Canada plan to charge extra import duties on a range of U.S. goods over the U.S. anti-dumping law known as the Byrd amendment.

“I’m disappointed our trading partners are retaliating. As I’ve said before, I’ll work with the administration and my colleagues before deciding next steps. I hope we’ll be able to come to a consensus soon on the Byrd amendment that will enable us to avoid continued trade sanctions."
