Baucus Comments Regarding Social Security COLA Adjustments

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) U.S. Senator Max Baucus issued the following statement in responseto the Social Security Administration’s announcement today that the Social Security cost-ofliving-adjustment (COLA) for next year will be 4.1 percent - about $65 per month for theaverage retired couple. The statement follows:

“Social Security continues to be one of America’s most successful and effectiveprograms. Before Social Security, poverty and dependency threatened all who could no longerwork or who were ready to retire. But with its annual cost of living adjustments, guarantee ofbenefits to seniors for life, progressive benefit structure, and spousal and survivors benefits,Social Security provides a solid foundation of economic security for all workers and retirees."
