Grassley: United States is Right to Stand Firm on Market Access in Trade Talks

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on July 1, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Committee on Finance, with jurisdiction over international trade, today made the following comment on the end of the World Trade Organization talks in Geneva this week.

“I’m disappointed that nothing came out of the talks. But Ambassador Schwab was right to hang tough on market access. Time is running out in these negotiations. I hope our negotiating partners recognize by now that the United States is serious. There won’t be a new WTO agreement unless we see substantial improvements in market access."
