Hatch on President’s Speech on International Trade Today

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Feb. 17, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement today after President Obama spoke out about the importance of international trade:

“Enforcing our trade laws is key to ensure everyone is playing on a level playing field. I appreciate the President talking today about the importance of trade to America’s economy. In that spirit, I hope the President will actively work with Congress to renew Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) which expired almost five years ago. TPA is key to negotiating new agreements to give America’s farmers, ranchers, businesses and manufacturers access to new markets to grow our economy. Without it, all these initiatives are really just nibbling at the edges."
