Wyden statement on Trump administration’s health care hostage-taking

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on April 13, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement in reaction to the president threatening to withhold cost sharing reduction payments that help to hold down out-of-pocket health care costs for low-income Americans:

“We will not negotiate with hostage takers. There is no outcome in which the administration sabotaging insurance markets persuades Democrats to pass Trumpcare, a disastrous proposal which would only make our health care system worse. When the president drops his threats on Americans’ health care - including the latest threat to withhold insurance payments, which he clearly understands puts people’s care in danger - Democrats will be prepared to work on bipartisan improvements to the Affordable Care Act."
