The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on May 2, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) will convene a hearing on Tuesday, May 9, to examine the reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The hearing titled, “The Children’s Health Insurance Program: The Path Forward," will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 215 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

“The CHIP program provides care for our nation’s most vulnerable children and with funding set to expire at the end of 2017, action is required to ensure these crucial services are maintained," Hatch said. “With this hearing, members will have the opportunity to examine the program in depth and explore ways to ensure it remains on a sound fiscal footing. There is bipartisan desire within the Finance Committee to address this issue and we look forward to working with members of the committee to find a viable path forward."

“The successful Children’s Health Insurance Program is a long-standing bipartisan priority, and I’m glad the Finance Committee has taken the initiative to discuss further funding," Wyden said. “It is my hope that next week’s hearing will lay the groundwork for a timely, enduring extension of CHIP so that families, health providers and states can continue to count on this bedrock health program."
