Wyden Statement on 2018 Senate Budget Resolution

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Sept. 29, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement in response to the Senate Budget Committee’s proposed 2018 budget resolution:

“This is at least a $1.5 trillion-dollar giveaway in tax cuts for the rich that reeks of Republican hypocrisy and flies in the face of fiscal responsibility. These deficit-exploding costs will lead to cuts in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, which the president himself campaigned on preserving.

“Today’s budget further proves that Republicans are wholly committed to using phony equations, budget gimmickry and reconciliation to deliver massive tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy and multinational corporations at the expense of the middle class and our economy. It is a giant step in the opposite direction of developing real tax reform that is long-term, bipartisan and is at least as progressive as current law."
