Wyden Statement on Ways & Means Passage of Legislation to Tax E-Cigarettes

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Oct. 23, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in reaction to Ways & Means Committee passage of legislation to tax e-cigarettes:

“The Ways & Means Committee today advanced important legislation to combat a growing public health crisis and tax e-cigarettes at the same rate as tobacco cigarettes. A new generation of nicotine users has been created virtually overnight, and we must take action. The good news is that we know what works to get young people to stop using these products - increasing the price. Taxing these dangerous products is one of the most effective ways to address this threat to our children’s health, and I will be working to pass my companion legislation in the Senate."
