Wyden Statement on Trump-Approved Medicaid Cuts in South Carolina

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Dec. 12, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued a statement after the Trump administration announced its approval of South Carolina’s request to implement a work requirements regime that has resulted in thousands of Americans being thrown off their coverage in other states:

“Trump’s health care agenda is squarely focused on putting health care out of reach for working Americans," Wyden said. “South Carolina already has one of the strictest Medicaid programs in the country. Thanks to Trump, new and existing parents stand to lose their health coverage unless they hack their way through arbitrary and slapdash paperwork requirements. There is only one outcome from Trump’s schemes: fewer Americans with health care."
