Wyden Statement on New Studies Showing CARES Act Benefits

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on June 22, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in reaction to new studies showing the benefits of the CARES Act:

“Poverty decreased and incomes rose in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, in large part due to supercharged unemployment benefits. The success of supercharged unemployment benefits is why Republicans oppose them - there's no better evidence of Republicans' failed trickle-down economic agenda than the success of putting money directly in workers’ hands. Rather than continue the $600 boost, Republicans want to shove billions in tax cuts at their corporate donors. If supercharged benefits are not continued past July 31st, millions of families and the broader economy will suffer mightily."
