Grassley on USMCA Entering Into Force

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on July 23, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

The USMCA entered into force on July 1, and I am eager to see the modernized agreement deliver on its promise to spur job growth for American farmers, workers, businesses and innovators as well as create new opportunities with our North American trading partners.

USMCA fixes many problems under NAFTA, and it also creates several new, modern trade provisions for our 21st century economy.

However, there is still plenty of work remaining to ensure that the agreement is implemented fully and properly.

I urge the Administration to be expeditious in addressing any enforcement issues or non-compliance from our trading partners under the dispute settlement mechanism.

I also encourage close consultation between Congress and the Administration so that we may continue to be successful in USMCA implementation efforts, allowing Americans to reap the benefits of this agreement.
