Wyden Statement on Child Tax Credit Payments

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on May 17, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in reaction to the Treasury Department’s announcement that advanced child tax credit payments will be sent starting July 15:

“It’s great news that advanced child tax credit payments will be sent on schedule starting July 15. Democrats cut taxes for working families-not the wealthy-and millions of working families will soon benefit. The $250 monthly child benefit-$300 for children under six-will give families financial security and create new opportunities for a generation of children. Families will no longer be forced to let bills pile up and wait for their annual refund. To ensure this policy achieves its goals, outreach and education campaigns in the coming months are critical. Children living in poverty are far more likely to live in families that do not file taxes, so there’s work to do to make sure families don’t fall through the cracks."
