WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) today held its organizational meeting for the 110th Congress, appointing Congressman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) Chairman and Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) Vice Chairman for the opening session. Both appointments were approved by unanimous consent.
“It is an honor to lead the Joint Committee on Taxation," said Chairman Rangel. “The work we do here will set the tone of debate on tax policy throughout the Congress and I look forward to working with my colleagues to reach bipartisan solutions to the issues facing our nation."
The JCT is a bi-partisan, select committee which advises Congress on the systems and methods of internal revenue laws. The committee and its staff help foster a closer understanding of the detailed problems confronting both taxpayer and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the development and application of tax law. The committee is comprised of senior Democratic and Republican members from the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Senate Finance Committee.
