Camp, Brady Express Frustration with U.S. Auto Market Access in Japan

Washington,DC - Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI) and Trade Subcommittee Ranking Member KevinBrady (R-TX) today sent a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, sharingthe Administration’s disappointment regarding Japan’s decision to use anartificial measure of fuel economy to limit U.S. participation in the Japanesecash-for-clunkers program.

The Members stated: “Over the years, we havebeen actively working to obtain market access opportunities for our automakersin Japan. In that long-running effort, this most recent episode has had afamiliar feel to it. Just like in the past, the United States expended a massiveamount of energy, only to receive a helpful, but all-too-modest result."
