Chairman Levin Applauds U.S. – Israel IPR Understanding

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Feb. 18, 2010. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee Chairman Sander M. Levin (D-MI) issued the following statement applauding the understanding reached between the U.S. and Israel with respect to intellectual property rights for pharmaceutical products:

“With this understanding, Ambassador Kirk and the Obama Administration have improved protections for U.S. intellectual property rights in Israel while at the same time respecting the need to ensure access to affordable medicines. This is an example of how the United States can pursue its commercial interests with its trading partners in a manner consistent with our principles and values. Ambassador Kirk and his staff have successfully resolved a longstanding disagreement between the United States and Israel, an important U.S. ally and friend -- and the first FTA partner of the United States."
