Levin, Stark Statements Following Appeals Court Ruling on Health Care Reform

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on June 29, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) and Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Pete Stark (D-CA) today welcomed the ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit upholding the Affordable Care Act’s Constitutionality.

Said Ranking Member Levin: “This is an important decision where one Republican-appointed judge and one Democratic-appointed judge have joined together to find a fundamental part of health care reform constitutional. This should send a strong signal to Republicans -- some of whom supported this fundamental approach a decade ago -- to stop trying to repeal a law that is already benefiting millions of Americans of all ages through cheaper prescription drugs and better access to coverage."

Said Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Stark: “Today's ruling on the health reform law is both welcomed and expected news. I'm confident that the law will continue to stand up to the constitutionality test as it winds its way through the courts."
