Poll: Vast Majority of Americans Oppose Republican Plan to End the Medicare Guarantee

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on March 1, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

A poll out today by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that 70 percent of Americans - including 53 percent of Republicans-said they wanted Medicare "as it is today, with the government guaranteeing seniors health insurance and making sure that everyone gets the same defined set of benefits."

American’s continue to reject the Republican plan to end the Medicare guarantee and shift costs onto the backs of America’s seniors and people with disabilities. They rejected this plan last year when Republicans introduced it, and they still reject it now. Democrats will continue to work to improve Medicare and ensure that the guarantee is there for every generation.
