Levin: House GOP Must Immediately Hold Up-or-Down Vote on Senate Bill

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Jan. 1, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today made the following statement urging House Republicans to immediately bring up the Senate-passed legislation for an up-or-down vote:

“After action by the Senate on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis, House Republicans are providing further evidence of an extremism that threatens the economy and the well-being of Americans throughout our nation. Governing carries with it a responsibility to be able to accept balanced approaches, in this case one that would preserve middle class tax cuts, end them for the very wealthy, prevent a devastating cut in Medicare physician payments and extend unemployment insurance for two million Americans looking for work. With markets reopening on Wednesday and Americans returning to work, the only responsible path forward is for House Republicans to immediately hold an up or down vote on the bipartisan Senate legislation."
