WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today made the following statement after President Obama nominated Jack Lew to be the next Treasury Secretary:
“I commend President Obama on the nomination of Jack Lew to be the next Treasury Secretary. Jack needs no introduction on Capitol Hill, where he is widely respected on both sides of the aisle as an exceptionally intelligent and thoughtful public servant. His extensive budgetary expertise makes him perfectly suited to tackle the economic and fiscal challenges we confront, with an eye toward continuing our nation’s recovery and ensuring a balanced approach to deficit reduction that includes both additional revenue and spending cuts. I'm hopeful that he will be swiftly confirmed by the Senate so that he can continue Secretary Geithner's extraordinary leadership on our country's economic and fiscal challenges. Secretary Geithner has helped guide our economic recovery with remarkable skill over the last four years and he will be sorely missed."
