WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today made the following statement after Ways and Means Republicans scheduled a Wednesday mark up of H.R. 807, a bill to prioritize the payment of our nation’s bills in the event of a default. The mark-up will take place Wednesday, April 24, at 10 a.m., in Room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building:
“Apparently Republicans have forgotten how badly they hurt the American economy the last time they turned our nation toward default. Otherwise they would not be entertaining this dangerous legislation. Acting on legislation to prioritize our bills in the event of a default renews the economic uncertainty that Republicans have forced American workers and businesses to live through far too many times in recent years. For the sake of American workers and businesses, and the economy as a whole, Republicans must stop playing games and start governing."
