Ryan Marks 50th Anniversary of Medicare

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Aug. 14, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) released the following statement to mark the 50th anniversary of Medicare.

“Medicare is more than a program; it’s a promise. It’s a commitment to all Americans that if you work hard, you’ll have the support you need when you retire.

“For 50 years, Medicare has been there for our seniors. But unless we take action, it won’t be there for the next generation.

“The very purpose of Medicare is to give seniors more security and peace of mind. We’ve started to reform the program to make it more efficient and more effective. And we will continue to build on that principle so that Medicare works for today’s seniors and tomorrow’s."
