SPRINGFIELD, MA - Today, Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) announced that the Committee has hired Kelly Marie Fay Rodríguez to join the Trade Subcommittee staff supporting the Committee’s oversight of the Trump Administration’s implementation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
“The USMCA is a tremendous bipartisan success that includes landmark provisions to protect workers’ rights, care for our nations’ shared environment, and ensure patients’ future access to affordable medicines. Critical to the USMCA’s success is its proper implementation, particularly of its rigorous general and labor enforcement mechanisms. Those mechanisms are central to the commitment of the USMCA to correct for the flaws of the NAFTA," said Chairman Neal. “I am delighted to welcome Ms. Fay Rodríguez to the Ways and Means Committee trade staff. Her legal background and experience organizing and engaging with workers and the labor community in the United States and overseas make her a valuable complement to our existing team of talented professionals."
Most recently, Ms. Fay Rodríguez served as the Bangladesh Deputy Country Program Director for the Solidarity Center, after working as a Program Officer supporting the Solidarity Center’s efforts to monitor labor conditions, trade union organizing, and labor-related issues in Mexico and the countries of the South Andes. She previously held positions with the AFL-CIO, the Organization of American States, the Office of the New York State Attorney General in the Labor Bureau, and the SEIU Local 32BJ Legal Services Fund. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and a Juris Doctor from City University of New York School of Law.
Ms. Fay Rodríguez - whose first day with the Committee is today - is the newest addition to the Ways and Means Democrats’ trade team, which includes Keigan Mull, Julia Friedman, Katherine (Katie) White, Alexandra Whittaker, and John Catalfamo, and is led by Katherine Tai.
