The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on June 11, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) and House Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released guidance addressing concerns the Chairmen recently raised with the agency regarding the seizure of nursing home residents’ economic impact payments:

“We’re relieved CMS heeded our concerns and issued clear guidance prohibiting this unlawful practice. Predatory facilities are now on notice that there will be forceful repercussions if they attempt to seize their residents’ economic impact payments. Seniors and their families are struggling immensely during this crisis - we hope today’s news offers them some assurance."
