Brady: Job Growth Beating Expectations Provides Greatest Relief

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Sept. 4, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

The Woodlands, TX-Ways and Means Republican Leader Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement on the July jobs report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“There is no greater relief than a job and the security it provides, and this report beat expectations with a third consecutive month of job growth, with 10.2% unemployment in July down from 11.1% in June.

“The most responsible thing we can do is to take proactive measures to allow people to return to work safely, instead of continuing to lock down the economy.

“Democrats must stop obstructing and work with Republicans to ensure workers can transition from their unemployment benefits to a job that allows them to put food on the table."

Note: The Labor Department reported unemployment rate fell to 10.2 percent in July, down from a peak of 14.7 percent in April. The economy also added 1.8 million jobs in July, a third consecutive month of job growth.
