WASHINGTON, DC - Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) and Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s pre-election gimmick to provide a one-time $200 drug discount card to Medicare beneficiaries:
“After four years of failing to reduce prescription drug costs for Americans, President Trump is now stooping to a desperate and transparent gimmick that raids the Medicare Trust Fund and does nothing to lower skyrocketing drug prices. Americans need real policy solutions to ensure they can afford their prescriptions, not one-time political ploys haphazardly rolled out a month before a presidential election. If President Trump really wanted to make a difference, he would support our legislation that finally allows the federal government to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors and, for the first time, adds dental, hearing, and vision benefits under Medicare."
