Neal Statement on March 2021 Jobs Report

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on April 2, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

SPRINGFIELD, MA- Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) March 2021 jobs report :

“Today’s jobs report shows that more and more Americans are starting to feel the effects of President Biden and Congressional Democrats’ aggressive action on vaccine distribution and that our efforts to stimulate our economy were necessities. Nearly a million more people are back at work, and while this is a welcome step in the right direction, we are still seeing inequitable trends in the restoration of these jobs.

“At this rate, pre-pandemic levels of employment could not return until well into 2022-we cannot afford to slow down. Besides continuing to get shots in arms and keeping workers and their families afloat in the interim, the most important thing we can do for the American people is ensure good jobs are available at the end of this tunnel. We must now build on the momentum of the American Rescue Plan by making President Biden’s American Jobs Plan a reality."
