Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Foreign Minister of Ireland Simon Coveney

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with Foreign Minister of Ireland Simon Coveney. They discussed Foreign Minister Coveney’s recent travel to Ukraine and Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s trip to Moldova and Romania and the growing humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian Federation’s brutal and unprovoked war against Ukraine. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Foreign Minister Coveney explored ways to address global food insecurity, which Putin’s war of choice has exacerbated.
The two leaders also discussed the need to ensure that cross-border humanitarian aid continues to flow to Syria through the Security Council’s reauthorization of the cross-border mechanism. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield underscored the vast humanitarian needs on the ground and called for the expansion of humanitarian access throughout Syria.
