The Biden-Harris administration recently announced roughly $68.4 million would be distributed to 125 ecosystem restoration projects across the country.

According to a May 12 U.S. Department of the Interior news release, these funded projects will seek to promote healthier forests, invest in the National Seed Strategy, restore national parks, and reduce mined land hazards. Projects will be funded through the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, Office of Insular Affairs, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Geological Survey.

“President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a once-in-a-generation investment that will allow us to restore healthy ecosystems across the country,” Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland stated in the release. “This is an important step towards building a better America for people and wildlife, for generations to come.”

The money for these projects would be allocated from fiscal year 2022 funds provided under Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which has set aside a total of $1.4 billion for Ecosystem Restoration and Resilience, according to the DOI.

The DOI is leveraging these resources to help states, Tribes and local governments invest millions yearly towards habitat restoration, invasive species management, at-risk species protection, and other ecosystem improvements, according to the agency's website.

According to the DOI news release, an additional $1.8 million will be made available for programs that aim to prevent invasive species.

A full list of the 125 ecosystem restoration projects can be found on the DOI website.
