Chairman Salmon on the hearing: “On July 16, 2013, the Panamanian government discovered and detained the Chong Chon Gang cargo vessel traveling from Cuba to North Korea. Discovered on board were 25 cargo containers of Cuban weapons and other UN-sanctioned items bound for the rogue regime in North Korea. In anticipation of the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee’s impending report, our Committee will investigate Cuba’s recent history of military proliferation and non-compliance with UN sanctions and review the options available to the Committee to hold Cuba accountable for their violations."
