ENGEL STATEMENT ON PARIS TERRORIST ATTACK

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Jan. 7, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC-Representative Eliot L. Engel, the leading Democrat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement regarding the terrorist attack in Paris.

"I'm outraged and disgusted by today's terrorist attack in Paris. My heart goes out to the families and colleagues of all the victims.

"Free expression and a free press are among the most cherished values of a free society and two of the strongest tools we have in the fight against violent extremism: they shine the light of truth on a false and dangerous ideology. And as those responsible for today's barbarity will soon learn, violence and fear will never silence those who yearn for freedom.

"We stand with our French friends and allies today as they mourn their compatriots and work to bring those responsible for this attack to swift justice.".
