WASHINGTON-Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement regarding the release of the House Select Committee on Benghazi’s report.
“That the Benghazi Committee's report found nothing new of consequence is perhaps the least surprising development I've seen in my three decades as a public servant. After two years and millions of taxpayer dollars wasted, the Committee has done nothing but release 800 pages of information we essentially already knew, with a few cherry-picked details which hardly justify the Committee's existence.
“Because the Committee could find nothing to support the Republican leadership's stated goal-tearing down Secretary Clinton-apparently it focused instead on second-guessing civilian and military leaders making the best decisions they could under the circumstances. I can think of a few better things to do with the American people's tax dollars.
“With the release of the report comes one positive outcome: the 30-day clock to shut down the Benghazi Committee will soon be ticking, and this colossal waste of time and money is coming to an end.".
