Royce Welcomes U.N. Arms Embargo on South Sudan

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on July 13, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement after the United Nations Security Council adopted new sanctions and an arms embargo on South Sudan.

“Finally, the U.N. is acting to help stop the flow of weapons to South Sudan. I appreciate Ambassador Nikki Haley’s push to get this done, as well as her strong remarks condemning atrocities being carried out by government and rebel forces alike. All U.N. members must now help ensure the swift and effective implementation of this embargo. Brutal attacks on innocent South Sudanese men, women and children must be stopped."

NOTE: Chairman Royce first called for an arms embargo on South Sudan in 2015.
