Engel Statement on Trump-Erdogan Meeting

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Nov. 13, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington-Representative Eliot L. Engel, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today issued the following statement on President Trump’s White House meeting with Turkish President Erdogan.

“Trump’s meeting with Erdogan let Turkey off the hook for invading Syria, causing a mass exodus of Kurds, and purchasing the S-400 missile system from Russia. This meeting was a mistake from start to finish. It should never have happened."

Last week, Chairman Engel and 16 other members of Congress wrote to President Trump strongly urging that he cancel the meeting with President Erdogan.
