Washington, DC - The following is the reaction of Senator Susan Collins on the news that Sheila Bair is stepping down as chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation this summer

"Chairman Bair has been a strong and steady leader during turbulent times for the financial industry. As a former state financial regulator, I appreciate her expertise and her willingness to be open and available to Congress. I have enjoyed working with Chairman Bair on financial reform, and I am grateful for her prescient work on the dangers of high-risk lending, and her leadership in dealing with the crisis it created. She will be greatly missed."
