The following press release was published by the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on Nov. 14, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the committee advanced the nomination of Kirstjen Nielsen to be secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to the full Senate in a significant bipartisan vote of 11-4.

“Our nation is facing constantly-evolving threats, making it all the more important for strong, permanent leadership at DHS. Ms. Nielsen’s prior experience at the department, background in cybersecurity, and tenure with General Kelly will serve her well in this challenging position. I hope the Senate will take up Ms. Nielsen’s nomination as quickly as possible."
