Leader Rodgers Statement on President Biden Easing Energy Sanctions on Venezuela

House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement on the Biden administration easing energy sanctions on Venezuela.

“I strongly oppose the Biden Administration’s move to ease sanctions on Venezuela as its corrupt socialist government continues to undermine America’s national security. We did not need to import oil from Russia, and we do not need to turn to Venezuela now. The United States is the world’s leading producer of oil and gas, and American workers are eager to produce millions of additional barrels of oil per day.

“We continue to call on Democrats to support the American Energy Independence from Russia Act. Many have recognized the need to increase American production. But actions speak louder than words. Unfortunately in the last week alone, Democrats blocked this bill for the sixth time, supported canceling oil leases in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico, and lurched to a socialist price fixing scheme for gas that will make Biden’s energy crisis worse. Just like in the 1970s, this will make us even more dangerously dependent on foreign oil produced by authoritarian countries like Venezuela, Russia, and Iran.

“To win the future, it’s time to unleash American energy. That’s how we restore security, prosperity, and optimism to the hardworking people of this country again.”
