Peterson Leads Letter on Addressing Damage from Trade Retaliation

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Agriculture on April 18, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

In Wednesday’s hearing to mark up the House Agriculture Committee’s partisan Agriculture and Nutrition Act (H.R. 2), Ranking Member Collin Peterson addressed the threats facing American farmers following the Administration’s actions on trade, and the need for certainty given a potentially significant drop in demand as a result of retaliatory tariffs from major export partners like China. Ranking Member Peterson and Minority members of the Agriculture Committee sent a letter Tuesday to President Donald Trump, Ambassador Robert Lighthizer and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, encouraging the use of increased Title 1 reference prices, increased funding to fight trade barriers, and ensure an adequate dairy safety net.
